Charlotte 1911 “Charlotte 1911” is a collaborative project between the Digital Innovation Lab at the University of Chapel Hill and the Levine Museum of the New South, whose mission is to “engage a broad-based audience in the exploration and appreciation of the diverse history of the South since the Civil War, with a focus on Charlotte and the surrounding Carolina Piedmont.”
Using city directories and city maps as key historical documents and built on Prospect, “Charlotte 1911” repopulates Charlotte’s vibrant city center of a century ago and locates each resident and business in the built environment of that time.
